The newest must have fashion accessory Thursday is a New York Yankees World Series Championship baseball cap. They have been flying off the shelves, but CBS 2's Magee Hickey was able to snag one just before supplies ran out.
Talk about wearing your loyalty on your sleeve, how about on your head and your chest too.
The victory party at Modell's began just minutes after the Yankees clinched the World Series. CBS 2 was on hand as three transit cops were buying everything in sight.
"Between the playoffs and the World Series, I have spent about $400 worth of stuff. We waited 9 years," said Stephen Johnson.
Mitch Modell says he printed 50 warehouses full of the Yankees World Series champs grey locker room tees, hats, shot glasses, stuffed animals, flags and banners, way ahead of time, all on a hunch.
"Johnny Damon told me this is a guarantee. I said, 'are you absolutely certain.' He said 'yes,' and I said, 'let the printer start printing,'" said Modell.
Within a few hours, the store ran out of the World Series caps, so some fans had to settle for something else.
"I am buying this World Series official baseball. I definitely wanted to get my hands on this before they run out," said Martin Santiago.
The only regret at the Times Square Modell's is that they didn't print enough Hideki Matsui shirts because they had no idea he was going to be MVP. They'll have some made within 48-hours, so get on line.
