CBS 2 Intern Grills Dad, Mets Manager Jerry Manuel

Natalie Manuel Takes On Her Father At Shea Stadium

NEW YORK (CBS) ―

Sitting in the stands biting away at my nails during a game is one thing, but sitting in a room filled with people interrogating my father with question after question is another.

So imagine what it's like for me, when I'm the one doing the interrogating. You see, asking my father a game-related question with the cameras off in the comfort of our own home is a piece of cake. On the other hand, contemplating on a good question to ask him with the cameras on is a whole different ballgame.

I had been in the biggest media outlet in the world, New York City, for only a few weeks before my father gained the title Interim Manager for the New York Mets. I was not prepared to see my dad's face every day on newspaper stands while pushing my way through the crowds of the Big Apple. When that became a trend, I knew that my everyday life in the media world had changed .

While interning at WCBS, I was given the opportunity to interview my father one-on-one
. This exclusive interview with my hero depicts the true colors of the Manuel family and my relationship with my father on a day-to-day basis.

After every interview that I conduct, the Mets manager always asks me to give him a synopsis of the interview. If the synopsis was not to his liking, there was a critique session in store for me.

Quiet as it's kept, I was nervous because I knew what I was in store for.

This was the most challenging interview; my main concern was just to make my dad proud. Once the interview came to a close, I realized dreams do come true and one goal has been accomplished on my list.

Walking through a room filled with people whispering, "That's Jerry Manuel's daughter," is such an unsettling feeling. But carrying that name, Manuel, in the biggest media outlet in the world, is an honor. We have one name, which means one family.
