Severe Weather Threatens Entire Tri-State Area
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The National Weather Service issued numerous severe weather warnings across the tri-state on Thursday as a line of strong thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, large hail, dangerous lightning, and strong winds pushes through the region.
A flash flood watch was issued for New York City until 10 p.m. The watch was also issued for Nassau and Westchester counties in New York, and Bergen, eastern Passaic, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties in New Jersey.
CBS 2's Lonnie Quinn says the severe weather system will threaten the tri-state through the evening rush.
In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with these storms. If you are in the areas under the warnings, you should seek shelter immediately.
Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
