Latest New York Sports:

(AP) Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko each scored 23 points, and the Utah Jazz won in New York for the first time in more than five years by beating the Knicks 95-93 on Monday night.

Mehmet Okur had the go-ahead basket with 1:16 to play and finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz, who opened a difficult four-game road trip by winning at Madison Square Garden for the first time since Feb. 20, 2004.

Deron Williams was limited to five points but had 16 assists. Utah, which earned its first road victory of the season, visits Boston next and wraps up the trip Saturday night at Cleveland.

Rookie Toney Douglas scored a season-high 21 points for the Knicks.

GIANTS CRISIS Four-game slide has NY Giants with backs to wall

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — A four-game losing streak has not only hurt the New York Giants' chances of repeating in the NFC East, it has put their playoff hopes in serious doubt.

Coach Tom Coughlin on Monday refused to blame anyone for the last-minute loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday that dropped the Giants to 5-4. Instead, the coach shouldered the blame, saying no one feels worse than he does.

Heading into their bye week, the Giants are now a half-game behind Atlanta (5-3) in the race for the NFC's second wild-card playoff spot. The teams are scheduled to meet at Giants Stadium on Nov. 22.

The problem for the Giants is their schedule down the stretch.

GIANTS-WILKINSON Giants LB Gerris Wilkinson has wrist surgery

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Backup New York Giants linebacker Gerris Wilkinson will be sidelined up to two months following surgery to repair a dislocated right wrist.

The surgery was performed on Monday by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Wilkinson was hurt in the second half of the Giants' 21-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. The fourth-year pro had a team-high 12 special teams tackles, including on the opening kickoff of the second half.

JETS-BACK TO WORK Jets hope to recapture swagger after bye week

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Braylon Edwards has a unique perspective on the Jets' slide to 4-4 following a 3-0 start. Traded to New York days after the team's first loss, the receiver brings an outsider's view when he's watched some video of those first three games.

As the Jets returned from their bye-week break Monday, Edwards said the team looked like it was having a lot of fun in those early victories, with players trying to prove they deserved respect. That attitude slipped as New York reveled in its early success.

The Jets will need to recapture that attitude from early in the season to have any chance of making the playoffs.

Edwards believes 10 wins would get them in. That means going at least 6-2 against a remaining schedule coach Rex Ryan calls "brutal."

BILLS-VICK Bills S Whitner would welcome Vick in Buffalo

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — If Tony Dungy believes Michael Vick would be a good fit in Buffalo, Donte Whitner is on board.

Confident Vick can regain his once-dynamic form, the Bills safety said Monday he would encourage his team to pursue Vick if the Eagles — who hold a $5.2 million option for next season — decide to release Vick in the offseason. Without referring to Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards, Whitner said players are replaceable, and it's important for teams to bring in "other guys that can get the job done."

Whitner spoke a day after Dungy linked Vick and the Bills during NBC's NFL pre-game show. Dungy, who serves as Vick's adviser, referred to Buffalo as "a dark horse" candidate to land the quarterback after he said the Bills previously expressed interest.

BILLS-EDWARDS Bills QB Edwards expects to be cleared to play

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills quarterback Trent Edwards expects to be cleared to play this weekend after missing nearly a month recovering from a concussion.

Edwards says he feels rested after practicing Monday in Buffalo's first workout since a four-day break because of the bye week. Edwards feels "ready to go" but hasn't been informed if he'll start Sunday when Buffalo (3-5) plays at Tennessee (2-6).

Edwards is working with Buffalo's top receivers, Terrell Owens and Lee Evans, an indication he's prepared to reclaim his job. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick helped the Bills go 2-1 after Edwards was hurt in a 16-13 overtime win over the Jets on Oct. 18.

SABRES-MAIR Sabres place forward Mair on waivers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Veteran Buffalo Sabres forward Adam Mair has been placed on waivers, with the other 29 NHL teams given until noon Tuesday to put a claim on him.

Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier said the team has a glut of forwards with the addition of Tim Kennedy and Mike Grier, and he tried trading the 30-year-old Mair but couldn't find any takers.

If Mair isn't claimed, the Sabres could either keep him or send him and his $775,000 salary to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League. Mair has played just three games this season, missing the first four after undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery.

Mair played 72 or more games each of the past three seasons. He has played in more than 10 NHL seasons, including seven with the Sabres.

LOMBARDI ON BROADWAY Neon lights of Broadway: Vince Lombardi

NEW YORK (AP) — Vince Lombardi is going to Broadway.

The Hall of Fame coach's life will be brought to life in a stage production based on the best-selling book "When Pride Still Mattered," by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss.

Lombardi was a pioneering coach who led the Green Bay Packers to the first two Super Bowl titles. The sport's ultimate prize is named in honor of Lombardi.

Lombardi's fame has crossed into pop culture because of his inspirational locker room speeches.

Fran Kirmser, one of the show's producers, said Monday that "sport produces great human drama" in explaining why Lombardi makes a good subject for a Broadway production.

The play is scheduled for its debut on Broadway in the fall of 2010.

ALBANY SU beats Albany 75-43 for Boeheim's 800th win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Jim Boeheim became the eighth Division I coach to reach 800 wins with milestone coming over Albany, 75-43 on Monday night in the 2K Sports Classic.

The 65-year-old Boeheim got his first victory, 75-48 over Harvard on Nov. 26, 1976.

Bob Knight leads the career list with 902 victories. Only Mike Krzyzewski (833), Jim Calhoun (804) and Boeheim are active among the eight who have reached 800.

Arinze Onuaku scored 14 points, Scoop Jardine and Wes Johnson each had 12 for Syracuse (1-0) in the tournament that benefits Coaches vs. Cancer.

After the final buzzer, Boeheim received a framed uniform with No. 800 stitched on it.

Boeheim established an NCAA Division I record in 2008-09 with his 31st season with at least 20 wins. He has 800 in 1,088 games, including a record 356 wins in the Big East.

Will Harris led Albany (0-1) with 14 points.
